Tearing Disorders

Tearing Disorders

Tearing is a frequent bothersome symptom of the eye(s). Most of the time, it is the eye’s response to some form of surface irritation, including dryness, misdirected eyelashes and poor eyelid position. On occasion, tearing results from a blocked tear duct causing overflow of the tears similar to a bathtub overflowing when the drain is plugged. Dr. Sullivan will perform a systematic evaluation to determine the cause of your tearing and will recommend a comprehensive regimen to improve these symptoms. In the case of a blocked tear duct, surgery may be recommended to restore normal drainage of the tears.
